Family History
Bill Shagren got his love of the Draft Horses as a small child. His father William Shagren Sr. always had a team on hand to compete in the local plowing match every year. Bill started out showing drafts by helping a neighbor show his Belgians as a young teen. He bought his first team of Belgians in 1968 and has been showing competitively ever since. The Shagren's have competed in various shows throughout Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Canada. Along with draft shows they also enjoy giving hay rides at local events, parades, and competing in the international plowing match each year. Bill gets his greatest joy out of watching his children and grandchildren working together showing their Belgians.
Bill married Lois in 1964 and they have 4 children, 15 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Bill and Lois along with Craig and Shari and their boys live on a 21 acre farm just outside of Custer, WA. All of their children live in the local area. Along with the Belgians, the Shagrens also enjoy trail riding and driving their Miniature horse.
